Knowing how to work with AI Large Langauge Models( LLMs), called prompt engineering, has become an important emerging technological skill. At its core, prompt engineering is about harnessing the power of language models to perform specific tasks by providing them with clear, concise and effective instructions, or “prompts.” Prompt engineering is knowing how to ask the right questions so the AI gives the desired answer. In the context of accounting, this could mean such things as automating data entry, deriving insights from financial data or enhancing communication with stakeholders. This case briefly reviews the history of automation in accounting, helps students learn about prompt engineering and gives students practice working with an LLM in various accounting settings.

The case is designed to be flexible such that you could use it as individual homework, groupwork or for a class discussion.

NOTE: We highly recommend introducing your students first to this prompt engineering case before using any of the other EYARC large language model AI cases. Students need to understand how to best use these tools before attempting a technical accounting LLM case.

Suitable courses: This material is relevant to all classes including, Data Analytics, Accounting Information Systems, Audit, Financial, Managerial, Tax, Cybersecurity
